Once again, I have been looking at some of those pics and this one has been somewhat baffling for awhile now but I think that I might have figured out some of the players in this photo.

I am certain about several things.

A) The Reds are at bat. Here is my evidence. The Reds' uniform in 1919 had red socks. If you look at the batter and the third base coach, you can see that dark band at the top. The White Sox' uniform in 1919 had white socks. The catcher and third baseman have white socks.

B) The third baseman is definitely Buck Weaver. The left fielder is definitely Shoeless Joe Jackson. The catcher is definitely Ray Schalk. In the four games at Redland Field, these were the only players that were in those positions for the White Sox.

My educated guess is that this is Game 1 of the Series on October 1, 1919. This is based on the fact that 30,511 fans attended Game 1. The stands look quite full. The attendance at Game 7 was only 13,923.

I cannot determine the batter. The Reds had seven left handed hitters in the lineup on this day. The White Sox also had three right handed pitchers that faced the Reds on this day and the pitcher appears to be right handed. I think the pitcher in this picture is either Ed Cicotte or Roy Wilkinson. The reason that I am making this determination is that since the stands appear to be full, this was probably early in the game. Cicotte gave up six runs in 3 2/3 innings and Wilkinson pitched 3 1/3 innings. I really think this is Cicotte. If you look at the base lines, they appear to still be fresh especially down the third base line. The Reds scored 6 runs on this particular day off Cicotte. If six players had scored and if it had been later in the game, the base lines would have been rubbed out by that time.

As it turns out, we have come to learn...     Jake Daubert has just singled off Ed Cicotte.
